About Us

Allport Motorsport was established in 1986 by Neil Allport, the same year he secured his first New Zealand Rally Championship title. Nearly 40 years later, Neil remains actively involved in the business and the sport, bringing decades of knowledge, experience, and passion to everything we do.

Originally founded as a workshop specialising in the preparation, construction, and maintenance of competition cars, Allport Motorsport quickly earned a reputation for building some of New Zealand's most successful rally cars. Over the years, we have built and maintained countless competition vehicles and have likely built more Mitsubishi Evolution rally cars than any other workshop in New Zealand.

Our motorsport achievements extend well beyond New Zealand. In 2008, Allport Motorsport became the first New Zealand-based rally team to win a round of the Production World Rally Championship (PWRC), with Finnish driver Juho Hänninen driving our Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX. Juho went on to finish second overall in the 2008 PWRC standings, marking one of the most successful international campaigns by a New Zealand-based rally team.

Our history in motorsport also includes building the Ford Telstar touring cars campaigned by New Zealand motorsport legend Paul Radisich during the 1990s, further demonstrating the breadth of our experience across multiple forms of motorsport.

The retail side of the business began in 1999 when Allport Motorsport was appointed the New Zealand distributor for Stilo. However, our relationship with many of the world's leading motorsport brands stretches back even further. Long before we became a specialist retailer, we were importing and using these products ourselves to build and prepare rally cars for customers. As the motorsport industry evolved, so did our business model, expanding from workshop services into a dedicated retail operation supplying competitors throughout New Zealand and beyond.

Today, Allport Motorsport proudly represents many of the world's leading motorsport brands and offers a comprehensive range of racewear, helmets, intercoms, rally equipment, performance parts, and tuning products. What sets us apart is that we don't simply sell motorsport products—we use them, test them, and rely on them ourselves.
